Meet Emmett Butterfield

Our Wall of Hope program is about more than recognition—it’s about resilience, courage, and the quiet strength that carries people through life’s hardest moments. We are honored to introduce our next recipient for Hadestown Teen Edition: Emmett Butterfield.
In October 2025, Emmett was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Since then, his life has been filled with challenges most people never have to face—regular outpatient chemotherapy treatments every other Friday at Primary Children’s Hospital, long days of recovery, and the emotional weight that comes with uncertainty. Despite it all, Emmett continues to move forward with determination.
He has already completed 9 of his 12 planned rounds of chemotherapy. Each treatment marks another step in a difficult journey—one that requires endurance, patience, and hope. After his final rounds, Emmett will undergo a PET scan to determine the next chapter: whether his cancer is gone or if treatment must continue. Even then, the road doesn’t simply end—like many who battle cancer, he will be closely monitored, especially during the critical first 18 months when recurrence risk is highest.
And yet, Emmett is so much more than his diagnosis.
He’s a kid who loves adventure—whether that’s traveling the world, playing soccer or pickleball, mountain biking, or diving into a good book or puzzle. He enjoys everything from video games to building with Legos, and like many teens, you’ll find him reaching for cookies or a Dr. Pepper when he gets the chance. He’s surrounded by a supportive family—his parents, siblings Brooklyn and Owen, and even his cat Scout—all cheering him on every step of the way.
When asked what “hope” means, Emmett chose two simple but powerful words: peace and comfort. And in many ways, that perfectly reflects what the Hopebox is all about.
Emmett’s journey reminds us that hope isn’t always loud or grand. Sometimes, it’s found in showing up to the next treatment. Sometimes, it’s in laughter with family. And sometimes, it’s simply believing in what comes next.
We are proud to honor Emmett Butterfield—a true example of strength, resilience, and hope. Please support him and his family by purchasing tickets to Hadestown and donating to them directly through Venmo @givehopebox.
